Locals of this region have suffered through Covid-19 and now a flood that has taken over their area. This flood has restrained the women of the area from accessing the materials they need to create their indigenous baskets. Selling these baskets is their support system for themselves and their families. My desire was and continues to be furthering my studies in the areas of economics, social entrepreneurship and innovation, to enable me to become an agent of change for the underserved and economically disadvantaged communities of Brazil. Now that I have been accepted to Duke University, I know that I will be entering an environment that will provide me with tools and opportunities to develop my work in social entrepreneurship in a profitable, sustainable, and scalable way.
